What to do when you lose your keys

Stay calm

I will start with the least technical, but at the same time most important rule: Stay calm and do not try to break into your house by yourself. Sometimes the damage that you will do to your door, lock or windows will be more expensive than calling an emergency locksmith.

Remember, there are plenty of ways to solve a lost key situation and you won’t stay locked outside forever. I know that losing your keys might be very upsetting and cause a panic, but try to stay calm, clear your mind and think what you can do.

If it is very cold, try going to your neighbor’s house until the help arrives. If it is during the night and you are scared, call a friend, and ask him/her to be with you on the phone or to come to your place. Get back in your car, lock the doors and wait for the locksmith to come. If you do not have a car, stay in the shadows, avoid the light, and make yourself less visible, until help arrives.

Remember, you are not the first person to lose his keys. The locksmiths know what to do and they will help you. All you have to do is call them and be patient for about half an hour, until they get to you.

Call the local locksmith

Call a local locksmith if you have lost your keys. You should call a professional who knows how to open any type of lock. If you don’t know where to find a good locksmith, ask around at your local hardware store.

With the latest technology developments, you can try finding a local locksmith by searching for an “emergency locksmith” in Google and select someone from the results. Nowadays every locksmith has a web site, so there will be plenty of choice. To get help as soon as possible, make sure you add your location to your search, so you can call the nearest locksmith in your area.

However, if you do not feel comfortable having someone else breaking into your house, there are many ways to pick up locks by yourself. You could use a lock pick set, a credit card, a pin tumbler lock picker, or even a magnet. There are different methods depending on what type of lock you want to pick up. Here we will go over how to pick up a deadbolt lock.

Use a Lock Picker, Jigsaw or/and Pilers

A lock picker is a tool that uses suction to open locks without damaging them. A lock picker works best on older locks, but they do work on newer ones too. To use a lock picker, you’ll need to first remove the old lock’s pins. Then, you’ll insert the lock picker into the hole and pull out the pins.

There are many types of lock picks, including tension wrenches, skeleton keys, and lever-action picks. A tension wrench is a type of lock pick that uses leverage to turn the tumblers of a cylinder lock. Skeleton keys are a type of lockpick that uses a series of pins to manipulate the tumbler mechanism of a cylinder lock. Lever-action picks use a lever to push the tumblers out of alignment, thus opening the lock.

Jigsaws are a tool used to cut metal. They consist of two blades that move together, cutting material between them. Jigsaws are useful for cutting sheet metal, wood, plastic, and other materials.

Pliers are a tool used to grip small items. They have two jaws that close around objects and pull them apart. Pliers are often used to hold screws, nuts, bolts, wires, and other small parts.

Change Your Locks

If you’re not comfortable calling a locksmith, you could always change your locks yourself. Changing your locks is much cheaper than replacing them. You’ll need a set of replacement keys, a drill, some screws, and a few tools.

Replace Your Keys

You can replace your keys yourself, but you’ll need a pair of pliers and a screwdriver. First, you’ll need to take off the old keys. Then, you’ll cut the ends off the new keys. Finally, you’ll put the new keys back in place.

Get Professional Help

If none of these options work, you may want to consider getting professional help. There are many companies that specialize in opening locks. These professionals will be able to open almost any kind of lock.
