Cupertino, California — January 15, 2026 Claudio Bono, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GiveaRoof.org, has emerged as a leading voice in the national conversation on homelessness following the breakout success of his book, The Homelessness Fix: How to Save the World While Everyone Else Argues About It, which reached #1 on Amazon’s Kindle bestseller lists in December 2025 after its August release, including the top position in Poverty & Social Issues.

Drawing on 36 years of senior hospitality leadership across Europe and North America, Bono presents a pragmatic, economically aligned framework to address two of the country’s most persistent challenges: post-pandemic instability in the hospitality sector and chronic homelessness.
At the center of the model is the strategic mobilization of an estimated $25 billion in unused airline miles and hotel loyalty points. These dormant assets currently expiring unused can be redeployed through nonprofit programs such as GiveaRoof.org to finance temporary hotel accommodations for carefully screened individuals experiencing homelessness, creating immediate economic, social, and municipal benefits.
Despite broader economic recovery, many independent and branded hotels continue to face uneven demand, margin pressure, and labor volatility in 2026. By converting excess loyalty inventory into booked room nights, the GiveaRoof framework delivers incremental occupancy, revenue, and Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) to local governments, while strengthening workforce retention and property-level cash flow.
“Hospitality is fundamentally about dignity,” said Claudio Bono, CEO of GiveaRoof.org. “After three decades leading hotels on two continents, I know that empty rooms represent both a financial inefficiency and a moral failure. We rigorously screen participants—no active substance abuse or acute mental health crises—and ensure every individual arrives prepared to integrate seamlessly into a hotel environment. Each stay is funded through donated loyalty points, producing revenue for hotels, tax revenue for cities, and a pathway back to stability for people who need it.”
A critical enabler of national scale is targeted IRS reform.
Airlines are currently required to carry unredeemed loyalty points as deferred revenue liabilities, creating long-term balance-sheet exposure. Bono’s proposal advocates for updates to federal tax policy such as expanded Section 170 charitable contribution treatment or new IRS guidance allowing airlines to recognize the fair market value of donated or redirected points as tax-deductible charitable contributions when used for programs like GiveaRoof.org.
Such reforms would convert expiring loyalty points from accounting liabilities into tax-advantaged assets, enabling airlines to participate at scale without financial penalty while delivering meaningful social impact.
The economic alignment is clear:
Hotels gain immediate room demand, higher occupancy, enhanced community standing, and accelerated recovery—particularly valuable for independent operators.
Airlines reduce balance-sheet exposure while realizing tax benefits and public goodwill.
Municipalities receive increased TOT and economic activity to support public services and employment.
Individuals experiencing homelessness gain safe, private accommodations, access to Welcome Centers, and structured pathways toward permanent housing and employment.
With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, the initiative presents a rare opportunity for policymakers to demonstrate measurable results: stimulating local economies, supporting the hospitality workforce, and reducing homelessness without new taxpayer spending.
Since its December 2025 bestseller breakthrough, The Homelessness Fix has been widely described as “transformative” and “a practical blueprint for change,” accelerating national momentum behind the program.
