IRCC Issues ITAs Through Canada Express Entry Draws Every Two Weeks

Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, June 13, 2023 – IRCC issues ITAs through Canada Express Entry Draws every two weeks If one’s are looking for immigration to Canada through Express Entry, one will want to watch for their draws! Canada issues Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence approximately every two weeks. The frequency of Canada Express Entry draws has increased after a pause for about 19 months due to the pandemic. The federal government in Canada has also introduced new categories to invite more skilled workers in-demand occupations.

Introduced in 2015 to respond to Canada’s changing economic and labor market needs, Canada Express Entry manages applications electronically. It oversees the following three economic immigration programs:

Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP):

It allows foreign skilled workers to immigrate to Canada. This suits candidates who are yet to live in Canada. A job offer will increase one’s chances.

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP):

It is for skilled foreign workers who want to get Canadian permanent resident status based on their qualifications in a specific skilled trade.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC):

This program is for skilled workers to gain PR who have required Canadian work experience which falls under the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

Besides the above three programs, IRCC, the federal immigration authority in Canada, earlier known as Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), also processes some programs for rural or far areas through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). However, applicants for Canada PNP must also qualify for one of the above three programs.

Latest Express Entry draws:

After resuming in July 2022, the Canadian federal government conducted around 11 draws until December 2022. Since the start of 2023, it has already undertaken 13 draws with the latest draw issued on May 24, 2023. It means after every two weeks, the federal agency – IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) conducts Express Entry draws.

The new Express Entry draw was held on May 24, 2023, and invited 4,800 candidates from the Express Entry pool with the lowest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 488. In the previous draw on April 26, 3,500 candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) with a minimum CRS score of 483.

Since its launch, Express entry into Canada has helped improve its economy and opened new opportunities for immigrants. Candidates make an Expression of Interest (EOI) – a tool for managing selection of candidates under immigration programs. According to the Canada Express Entry News, Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025 aims to target 465K newcomers in 2023 (82,880 through Express Entry), 485K in 2024, and 500K in 2025.

Change in categories:

The categories are tweaked every year by the federal authority following consultations with all the provinces and territories in Canada. In the newly introduced categories for 2023, IRCC will be focusing on Express Entry candidates who are strong in French language or relevant work experience in the following targeted occupations:

Healthcare occupations:

Science and Technology, Mathematics and Engineering (STEM) professions

Trade occupations, such as plumbers, contractors, and carpenters

Transport occupations

Agriculture and agri-food products occupations

The new categories are aimed at filling vacant positions throughout Canada. Immigration is seen as a vital component for reducing the labor shortage.

To be eligible, candidates must create an Express Entry profile that includes their age, educational credentials, work experience, language ability, adaptability, etc., and score at least 67 out of 100 points. Then they must use the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) calculator to rank higher and boost their immigration chances. IRCC ranks candidates in the pool who meet the category requirements based on CRS points and invites top-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residence. Candidates who qualify will get an ITA for Canada PR from a particular province, and additional points up to 600 for nomination.
