HTL London launches educational series to assist business process outsourcing

London, UK, April 6, 2023, Managing overheads is an important aspect of running a successful business. After all, even if your business is turning a profit, having too many ongoing costs can make it difficult to survive economic downturns and changes in market demand.

Of the ways businesses can reduce overheads, outsourcing is one of the most effective methods out there. But it only works if it is approached with care. Here are some tips that any business hoping to save money by outsourcing should keep in mind.

1 – Outsource the easy stuff first

There is no direct correlation between how complex a task is and how easy they are to outsource. Marketing and IT support can be fiendishly complex endeavors, and yet there is no shortage of marketing and IT support agencies out there looking for your business. And you’ll find that simple but niche aspects of running your business can be almost impossible to outsource without training people from scratch.

Having a wealth of service providers available to take on a task can make outsourcing much easier. And more competition in the field often leads to better prices for those buying those services. As a result, when looking to outsource, it’s often a good idea to start by checking how many viable service providers are available for any given task.

Usually, this will mean starting with tasks that can be done remotely, as that will give you access to talent from all four corners of the globe. For work that must be done in person, it’s a good idea to check how many service providers and agencies in your region handle that kind of work.

2 – Stick with reputable vendors

It’s easy to turn outsourcing into a race to the bottom in terms of prices. However, there is a limit to how little you can pay for qualified professionals. Paying below that rate means taking your chances with individuals and agencies who may not be able to handle the task at hand.

The solution here is to start with a reasonable budget. And to stick with service providers who have a good track record in their industry.

3 – Get only what you need

Hiring under qualified individuals can be a problem, but going with overqualified workers can also be an issue. Getting someone who is too good for the job often means paying more than needed to get a job done.

For example, if you’re going to pay extra to work with a freelance marketer who has been in the industry for over 30 years, it’s best to make sure the task at hand can benefit from that level of experience. Your team probably doesn’t need to pay the rate of someone that qualified if all you want is to run local ads and start a newsletter.

4 – Consider the right costs

When deciding what to outsource, it’s important to consider all the costs involved in handling a task in-house, including the personal costs. You may very well be able to take care of sales work and cold calling yourself, but if that is something you hate doing, there is a good chance you’ll put off doing that work. Or you may not be as effective as someone who likes that job.

In that scenario, even though it might have been more cost-effective to handle the task in-house, outsourcing it may turn out to be more profitable in the long run. Especially if outsourcing frees you — or one of your team members — to focus on work you’re better equipped for.
