Washington, DC– June 15, 2026 – The Haitian Development Network (HDN) Foundation is reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development by promoting precision agriculture as a practical and forward-looking approach to strengthening food security, increasing farm productivity, and creating long-term economic opportunities for Haitian communities.
For generations, agriculture has been the backbone of Haiti’s economy and the primary source of livelihood for millions of families. Yet declining productivity, unpredictable weather patterns, soil degradation, limited access to technology, and rising food imports have placed increasing pressure on local farmers and national food systems.
HDN Foundation believes that precision agriculture offers an opportunity to reverse this trend by helping farmers produce more food while using fewer resources and making smarter decisions based on real-time information.
Precision agriculture combines modern tools—including satellite mapping, soil analysis, weather forecasting, GPS-guided planning, drone imaging, mobile technology, and data-driven irrigation—to improve crop management and reduce waste. Rather than applying the same approach across an entire field, farmers can respond to the specific needs of individual crops, improving efficiency while protecting natural resources.
