The EADV Hair Transplantation Hands-on Workshop commenced in Greece on May 21–23 with an intensive three-day program. During the event, one of the leading figures in hair restoration, Dr. Koray Erdogan, also shared his expertise.
Organized under the EADV Face-to-Face Education program, the workshop brought together hair restoration surgeons from multiple countries. The meeting combined theoretical lectures with intensive hands-on training sessions. An interactive educational model was adopted to enhance standards in surgical decision-making, with live demonstrations focusing on donor area management, recipient site design, and graft placement techniques.
Participants had the opportunity to directly observe modern techniques through real-case demonstrations. In addition, the program included structured Q&A sessions and case-based discussions aimed at deepening clinical insight and facilitating knowledge exchange.
Artificial Intelligence in Hair Transplantation
In his presentation, Dr. Koray Erdogan discussed the integration of artificial intelligence systems into hair transplantation practices. It was demonstrated that algorithm-based digital analysis systems allow hair density and graft capacity to be assessed more objectively using real data. AI- and technology-based tools are also seen as creating a significant transformation, particularly during the pre-operative planning stage of hair transplantation procedures.
Dr. Erdogan emphasized that while AI- and technology-driven tools are revolutionizing the planning phase of hair transplantation procedures, the surgery itself still fundamentally relies on the surgeon’s experience and manual skill. He particularly underlined that the angle and direction of the hair follicles — and consequently achieving an extremely natural-looking result are directly linked to surgical expertise.
Throughout the three-day program in Greece, participants exchanged experience not only on technical procedures but also on case management, complication prevention strategies, and patient-centered approaches aimed at improving outcomes. Featuring internationally recognized surgeons such as Ron Shapiro, Krystallia Kyparissou, Sotirios Theoharis, and Dr. Koray Erdogan, the workshop was regarded as an important scientific platform contributing to the advancement of global standards in hair restoration surgery.
The event is expected to further strengthen international collaboration and support the development of future educational programs. Participants also discussed the establishment of standardized protocols applicable across different clinical settings.
Overall, the workshop represented a strong example of the integration of technology and clinical practice in modern hair transplant surgery.
