The festive season is well and truly on its way, which got us thinking about the activities we can do to make a holiday home, such as a lodge, feel more Christmassy and get us in the festive spirit.
So, if you’re thinking of celebrating the holidays in Cornwall, Devon or even up North, by visiting your holiday home before Christmas, we’ve collected 10 things you could do with your family and friends in your lodge, to bring the magic of Christmas to your home away from home.
Are you ready to get Christmassy?
1. Matching pyjamas
To get in the Christmas mood, you’ve got to dress the part, right? Christmas pyjamas or loungewear is the perfect way to get comfy and cosy whilst taking a break in your holiday home. They’re the perfect outfit for all the Christmas activities you can do inside your lodge or caravan.
And is there anything cuter than a family photo of you all in matching pyjamas?
2. Making Santa his own key
If you’ve got little ones, making a special key for Santa to visit is a great way to get your children excited for the big day. It’s also perfect for those who don’t have a fireplace, as this special key can unlock your front door or create a magical fireplace entrance for Santa on Christmas Eve night – imagination is a powerful tool for kids.
3. Letters to Santa
If you’re visiting your holiday home before the big day, you could create a letter-writing activity with your children, where they can write a letter to Santa. Once written, you could post your letter to Santa via the nearest post box.
4. Make your own Christmas cards
A little Christmas crafting session is fun for all ages – so why not make your own Christmas cards? Once made, you could send them to grandparents, neighbours, friends or each other.
To make it more fun, you could collect leaves and sticks from outside your lodge and add them to your card design.
5. A Christmas playlist
Music plays a big part in creating that festive feeling, so why not sit down together and create a playlist of all your favourite Christmas songs and hold a mini-Christmas disco? This will surely liven up your holiday home.
6. Gingerbread House
Why not try and make your very own gingerbread house? Making gingerbread from scratch is not only fun for all ages, but it releases a Christmassy scent into your holiday home too.
7. Christmas Jumpers
Everyone loves a Christmas jumper – so don’t forget to pack yours! You could make a day of it and host a Christmas jumper party with the kids or family and friends at your holiday home.
8. Make a popcorn garland
Not only does this activity keep the kids occupied whilst you cook, but the garlands made are also a great way to decorate your holiday home with something festive!
You could add cranberries, for example, to add a hint of Christmassy red to your garland too!
9. Make a blanket or pillow fort
Creating a blanket or pillow fort, with fairy lights and little additional touches, is not only a wonderful activity to do with the kids (or big kids), but it creates a space where more magic can continue with activities such as a Christmas story read aloud.
10. A Christmas movie
Christmas isn’t complete without watching a Christmas movie – or three!
Create a cosy, warm atmosphere within your lodge or caravan with Christmas lights, popcorn, hot chocolates and soft blankets, and press play on your favourite Christmas movie! – You could even watch a movie in your blanket or pillow fort!
