“Congo and Technip Energies Forge a Promising Partnership for Energy Development” Greetings to the readers of PAN African Visions

I’m excited to bring you news from the African energy sector, specifically about a significant collaboration between Congo’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons and French energy services provider Technip Energies. This cooperation agreement, signed during the Invest in African Energy Forum in Paris, aims to bolster capacity building in onshore and offshore energy developments in Congo.

The agreement, signed by Minister H.E. Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua and Technip Energies COO Marco Villa, emphasizes the expansion of cooperation in key areas related to energy transition principles. These areas include liquefied natural gas (LNG), zero-carbon energy solutions, and decarbonization.

Under the terms of the agreement, Technip Energies will leverage its expertise to enhance the capacities of the Ministry and the national oil company in various domains. These include process engineering, offshore and onshore platforms and installations, and the development of an offshore oil and gas field.

By tapping into Technip Energies’ proficiency, Congo aims to strengthen its project design and development capabilities, as well as benefit from their expertise in health, safety, and environmental studies. The agreement also emphasizes personnel training to ensure the country has skilled individuals who can contribute to the energy sector’s growth.

Minister Itoua expressed the significance of signing this deal in Paris, noting that Technip Energies is essential for developing capacity in Congo. He emphasized the importance of skilled individuals and experts, and the partnership aims to foster the development of such capacities. The Minister further encouraged more companies to collaborate with Technip Energies in Congo, showcasing the government’s commitment to attracting investment and expertise.

This agreement comes at a pivotal moment for Congo’s LNG market, as the country aspires to establish itself as a regional hub and global exporter. It builds on recent milestones such as the inauguration of the Congo LNG project by Eni earlier this year, with a capacity of 3 million tons per year. The collaboration between Congo and Technip Energies sets the stage for further expansion of the domestic LNG market, fueled by private-public cooperation and capacity-building efforts.

As we look ahead, Congo’s emerging status as a global LNG producer will be highlighted at the upcoming African Energy Week 2023 conference in Cape Town. The event will serve as a platform to connect potential investors and project developers with Congolese opportunities, facilitating the advancement of the African energy renaissance.

I invite you to join the conversation at AEW 2023 and witness the transformative potential of Congo’s energy sector. Together, let’s prioritize energy poverty eradication, foster sustainable development, and embrace the power of the free market.
