CommerceHub Acquires E-commerce Service Provider ChannelAdvisor (NYSE: ECOM) in $660 Million Cash Deal

CommerceHub, a leading e-commerce service provider based out of New York, has just signed a definitive agreement to acquire ChannelAdvisor (NYSE: ECOM) for $23.10 per share in cash.

ChannelAdvisor is a multichannel commerce solution that helps online retailers sell goods across various platforms. It offers services including listing synchronization and centralized inventory management.

This acquisition will bring an impressive customer base and suite of tools to CommerceHub’s product offering. E-commerce store owners rely on automation tools like ChannelAdvisor and Synchronize.com to streamline workflows and prevent headaches from stockouts or out-of-date product listings.

The acquisition price reflects a nearly 60% premium over ChannelAdvisor’s prior share price. Bryan Dove, CommerceHub’s CEO, had to say “CommerceHub and ChannelAdvisor have both established themselves as leading solutions for different segments of online retailers and brands. By coming together, we can provide an even broader network, enabling our combined customers to grow their businesses by discovering new products, new brands, and new channels.”

While e-commerce brand aggregators like Thrasio and Perch have been on a tear rolling up physical products e-commerce businesses, this is the largest recent transaction involving an e-commerce software provider. The deal values ChannelAdvisor at $663 million.

CommerceHub was founded in 1997 and counts major names as customers including The Home Depot, Macy’s, and Best Buy. With the ChannelAdvisor acquisition, they will be well prepared to expand their e-commerce service offerings.
