Being one of the biggest sanctuaries in the world, SARA was founded in 1996 and currently has 650 animals under our care. Animals stay at the refuge for the entirety of their natural lives when adoption from the outside is not an option. Only when an animal is suffering and has no possibility of recovery is euthanasia used in the real sense of the word. Never is an animal killed for our convenience.
