Duo Duo Project to Host Pet Appreciation Day Rally in Sunnyvale June 17th in Conjunction with Global Social Media Campaign

Sunnyvale, CA, June 16, 2023 – The Duo Duo Project, an organization dedicated to ending the brutal cat and dog meat trade in China, is excited to announce International Pet Appreciation Day, a special rally in Sunnyvale – where they are headquartered– celebrating the profound impact of pets, especially dogs and cats, in people’s lives.

Set to take place on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm PDT, the event aims to honor and express gratitude for the invaluable support that pets can contribute to the lives and well-being of individuals.

Also a free event, the two-hour occasion serves as a way to raise awareness and recognize the many ways domestic animals contribute to the lives of humans, especially their owners.

The Duo Duo Project’s team expressed the vision for the event, stating, “Moreover, this day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness and support for the well-being of animals in need. Unfortunately, many pets around the world suffer from neglect, abuse, and abandonment, depriving them of the care and respect they deserve. By coming together and showing solidarity, we can inspire positive change and offer hope to these unfortunate animals.”

Participants will enjoy various activities highlighting the positive bond between humans and their pets, creating a joyous atmosphere and celebrating the unconditional love and companionship that they provide.

To mark the beginning of a wonderful day and celebrate International Pet Appreciation Day, Andrea Gung, Founder and Director of the Duo Duo Project, is spearheading a social media campaign to encourage pet owners worldwide to participate in the event. Through a dedicated hashtag, #FamilyNotFood, she aims to create a virtual space where owners can share their stories, photos, and videos, highlighting the love and joy their pets bring. By joining the online conversation, participants can contribute to the collective celebration of the deep bond between humans and their beloved animals.

The initiative serves as a platform to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and promote the well-being of animals. Gung hopes that sharing their experiences and using the hashtag can inspire others to reflect on the importance of treating animals with kindness, compassion, and respect.

Their boots-on-the-ground team, who deploy culturally conscious programs to help people, especially children, see dogs as friends, not food, hope to inspire others to reflect on the importance of treating cats and dogs with kindness, compassion, and respect. With their coinciding social media campaign, they hope to encourage pet owners to take action, spread the word, and raise their concerns against the cruel meat trade happening worldwide, particularly in China.

Next week the Yulin Dog Meat Festival will take place in China. “Let’s combat the cruelty of the Yulin Festival with an international outpouring of love via social media as we honor the animals with whom we share our lives,” Andrea Gung, Founder and Executive Director of Duo Duo Project. Duo Duo Project, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is a Sunnyvale-based animal welfare nonprofit fostering compassion around the world.
